The Adaman Clip is a weapon for Red XIII in Final Fantasy VII. It is has six Materia slots, four of which are linked, and modest stats overall.
Like all Red XIII's weapons, Adaman Clip is not rendered or visible in-game, and also cannot be thrown.
Obtained[]
The Adaman Clip can be purchased for 11,000 gil from Icicle Inn.
Mechanics[]
As the Adaman Clip has a base Attack stat bonus of 50, the base damage for physical attacks when the Adaman Clip is equipped is in the following formula:
where "Level" is Red XIII's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Gold Barrette also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 106%, and grants a +15 bonus to Red XIII's Magic stat.
Use[]
The Adaman Clip has modest stats, which are slightly below weapons available for other characters at the Icicle Inn. It is an upgrade over the Gold Barrette, and a significant upgrade over the Silver Barrette, in terms of pure stats, and has an extra Materia slot, and thus is a worthwhile purchasing for players who use Red XIII.
The Adaman Clip has six Materia slots, four of which are linked. Red XIII's own stats, as well as the strong Magic boost by the weapon, make him one of the best mages. Therefore, Red XIII should equip Magic or Summon Materia, and make use of the ability to pair Support Materia on the available slots. The two unpaired slots can be used either for additional Magic Materia, for Independent Materia to improve Red XIII's stats, or for spare Command Materia.
The Adaman Clip outclasses the Gold Barrette and Silver Barrette, and overall outclasses the Seraph Comb. The Seraph Comb has a greater Attack boost, but lower Magic, two fewer Materia slots, and no linked slots. Therefore, Adaman Clip is better for Red XIII when using him as a mage, his preferred role, though Adaman Clip is a considerable gil investment whereas Seraph Comb is free. Adaman Clip is later outclassed by Crystal Comb, and thereafter, Red XIII's weapons vary wildly in function and stats, meaning the choice is more up in the air.
