Walkthrough[]

Optional objectives[]

Before talking to Shera in Rocket Town, Battle #6 of the Condor War minigame at Fort Condor is still available. After this, the Condor War will advance to Battle #7; at the conclusion of this chapter, it will advance to Battle #8. The only way to participate in Battle #7 is to go back through Mt. Nibel, back through Nibelheim, and take the buggy all the way back into Costa del Sol, where ride the Cargo Ship back to Junon, and the buggy will be waiting on the far side to ride to Fort Condor.

Around the part of Nibel Area past Mt. Nibel and on the way to Rocket Launch Pad Area is one of the best areas to upgrade Limit Breaks for all characters due to the presence of a number of weak monsters and the Valron that deals fractional damage. Players can choose to take advantage of this now, especially with Aeris using Fury Brand, though this area will still be available after the next mission in which a better vehicle is obtained, so players can choose to ignore and proceed.

There are no interesting monsters to engage in around Rocket Launch Pad Area, as none of them have any enemy skills to learn or items of interest to steal. If yet to recruit Yuffie, she has a high chance of appearing in the forests around the Rocket Launch Pad Area.

Rocket Town[]

Upon entering Rocket Town, the weapon shop sells a Shotgun for Vincent, Gold Armlets (a useful armor to buy for its four linked Materia slots and strong stats), and some stat-boosting accessories. The item shop, in addition to the normal selection of wares, also sells Barrier (with protective spells, including Reflect), Time, and Exit Materia. The player should also stock up on Tents if they wish to do the optional dungeon after.

There is an old man in town who, when talked to twice, will give the Yoshiyuki for Cloud. A Power Source can also be found in the town, and Barret's Drill Arm (a melee weapon with four double AP growth slots) in the top-right house.

In the house where the Drill Arm located, go to the back yard, and an airplane is found. At this point, Shera will walk in, and after some dialogue, the next objective is to speak to the captain, found at the rocket. Here, the party meets the captain, Cid, who will not lend the airplane (named Tiny Bronco), but if will talk about the rocket launch.

FFVII Mako Gun 2

Boss battle against Palmer.

Head back to Cid's house and talk to Shera again, triggering a series of dialogue. Following a group of scenes, a boss battle ensues ensues against Palmer. His Mako Gun can cast Bolt2, Fire2, or Ice2, and his Incite taunt inflicts the Sadness status effect. Linking Added Effect Materia with Seal to a character's weapon allows them to deal increased damage against Palmer; otherwise, the battle is relatively straightforward.

Following the boss battle, the party now has the Tiny Bronco , which can be used as a sea-faring vessel to explore the world map with through the lighter-colored shallow waters. This opens up new optional locations: the Northern Continent to go buy some new equipment, and Wutai Area for a side quest involving Yuffie ("Homecoming of a Miserable Daughter"; Yuffie needs to have been recruited to start it). The next story objective is to head east in search of the Keystone, starting "Secret Date".
