Тамаса (англ. Thamasa, яп. サマサ, Samasa?) - далекая деревня в Final Fantasy VI, расположенная на обособленном континенте в восточной части мира игры. The town is notably one of the last cities the player visits in the World of Balance. On the surface, Thamasa is nothing more than a humble backwater village, but the citizens hide a secret from outsiders.
Сюжет
Thamasa was founded after the end of the War of the Magi. The Magi, humans who could use magic were persecuted for their abilities and hunted down and executed. A handful of them escaped and founded Thamasa well away from civilization to live in peace. The descendants of the Magi retain the ability to use magic, but it is much weaker than their ancestors' as the bloodlines have waned. Publicly, magic is forbidden by the mayor to avoid unwanted attention from outsiders, but citizens can be found using magic in private. The player is free to visit Thamasa as soon as they acquire the Blackjack, but the shopkeepers will refuse to sell them anything and there is nothing to do in the town then.
Later, Terra, Locke, and Shadow come here searching for rogue espers with the Empire. They meet Strago and Relm, who insist the village is just a normal town. After resting in the inn, Strago wakes them up to tell them Relm is trapped in a burning building. As the blaze rages, Strago and the townspeople reveal their ability to use magic, trying to put out the inferno with their powers. When this fails, Strago, Locke and Terra enter the building to rescue Relm, but fall unconscious as the house begins to collapse. Shadow rescues them, and the next morning Strago tells the group the town's secret. Strago joins the party at this point, while Shadow leaves to search for the espers on his own. Strago directs the group to the Esper Caves to the west.
After finding the espers, General Leo meets with their leader, Yura, to discuss the Empire's desire for peace, but Kefka arrives and tells Leo the ceasefire was a ruse to draw the espers out of hiding. In the ensuing chaos, Kefka kills the espers and seizes their magicite remains, and has his troops incapacitate the party before attacking the town with the intention of burning it down, as he feels that it was too "boring." When Leo attempts to intervene, Kefka slays him shortly after having a shade of his fight Leo as well as break Leo's spirit further by conjuring a shade of Gestahl confirming Kefka's statements. More espers race to the city to stop Kefka, but they, too, are dispatched before Kefka leaves the town. In the aftermath, the Returners left behind in Vector arrive in a repaired Blackjack, and General Leo is buried in a small grove in a thicket of trees east of the town.
In the World of Ruin, the party brings either Shadow or Relm here to rest after rescuing them from the Cave in the Veldt. Whichever one the party finds depends on if the player waited for Shadow on the Floating Continent - if they waited, then Shadow will have survived and he will be found in the cave. Later, returning here with Strago and Relm in the party will prompt a sidequest with Hidon, a mythical monster Strago hunted in his youth. His friend Gungho tells Strago he was injured hunting the monster when it reappeared at Ebot's Rock north of town, and his injury encourages Strago to finish his lifelong quest and avenge Gungho.
If the player rests in the various inns around the world and views Shadow's dreams, it is revealed Shadow fled to Thamasa after his partner Baram was struck down by the authorities when they committed a train robbery. Shadow lived in Thamasa for an unspecified amount of time, and fathered Relm with one of Thamasa's citizens. To keep his past as a thief from catching up with his new family, Shadow eventually fled the town with the family dog, Interceptor, hoping his daughter and her mother could live a normal life without him. Relm's mother died, and Strago, a friend of a family, raised her as a granddaughter. This is why, when the party first visits Thamasa, Interceptor is so friendly with Relm. It is not stated if either Shadow or Strago knows the connection between Shadow and Relm.

Интересные факты
- It is rumored that Kefka was born in a Thamasan orphanage before leaving to go to Vector and eventually join the Empire. However, this is false: the rumor sprung up due to a CelesxKefka doujinshi that made up several aspects of the backstory of both characters, including Kefka's childhood in Thamasa. The doujinshi was not published by Square Enix and therefore the backstory elements introduced therein should not be considered canon.
