It's currently on sale and I'd like some thoughts about it to see if it may or may not be worth my time.
I'd also like to request there to be no major spoilers here since I haven't played it or seen much of it at all yet. I've done a little research about it but not much since I don't want to catch a big spoiler.
Jecht because not only is it one of the most badass themes in the series, he's also my favorite antagonist.
Seeing as FF4 is my favorite, I'm going with Golbez.
If we look at it as most important being the best, I give it to FF1. Pretty hard to beat the one that started it all and it's a solid game overall.
If we look at it as most popular being the best, it goes to FF7. It's a good game but severely overrated imo. I've said a few times my opinion about it and that hasn't changed. Good game but hogs the spotlight from other great games that deserve it.
If we look at it as the best game in the series, it's arguably FF9. This was the pinnacle of what the franchise was meant to be and was considered to be a love letter to the fans.
FF10 was good and is what I generally tell people just getting into the games to start with. Pretty much everything about it is solid. (It also has my favorite version of Bahamut so it gets bonus points from me there).
As far as mascots go, idk about game specific ones but Black Mage, Moogle and Chocobo are probably the most iconic characters in the franchise.
Lightning has a great design but I didn't play it so I can't really say she is my favorite.
Off the top of my head my favorites would be:

Yuna
Lenna
Terra
I feel bad because I know I'm not remembering some names but can't think of them atm.
They have some reoccurring characters but that's about it and they don't really tie into each other in most cases.
One example being Cid, who is usually tied with getting some form of transportation. You'll often see the same summons and equipment too. FF9 has some Easter eggs referring to previous games.
The only game I can think of that has different characters from different games interacting with each other is Dissidia.
I had only played 4 and 6 previously before the remaster. I'm glad they did the PR so I could comfortably play the classics on my PlayStation 5 because I don't like phone controls.
Super Mario RPG is on the way and I'm holding out hope for a Chrono Trigger remaster/remake. Then I'll have all the games from my childhood that I constantly played.
I read that Gilgamesh is a must but I was wondering if anything else had equipment or items worth stealing from.
Not gonna elaborate but first impression of FF2 is 4/10. Did not enjoy myself much but I'm sure most people have the same opinion about it at first. Might go back through in the future to see if I'll enjoy it more.
FF3 however I did enjoy and is pretty much a direct upgrade of FF1 imo. Took about 14 hours with boosts. Final party was Ninja, Knight, Devout and Sage. Favorite songs from OST are Requiem, Boundless Ocean, Crystal Tower, Dark Crystals and Everlasting World. First impression is 6/10.
Going to play FF5 next.
I absolutely don't recommend doing that. Even with a 4x boost at the end of the game, I got tired of grinding (mostly because of how the level system works in general). And weaker enemies give less when defeated so eventually you will be hit with diminishing returns.
There is another thing I don't understand about leveling.
I was farming Captains at Flynn and some weapons went up to 11 while others stopped at 7. Do certain weapons have a cap on what level they can go up to?
I'm currently playing it and from what I understand, stronger enemies level up your weapon/magic levels faster.
Example: using Cure multiple times will level it up. Same for different spells. Attacking levels up weapon level.
Using spells increases your magical stats, attacking/defending increases physical stats and HP can be gained at regular intervals if you have the boost turned on.
I still don't completely understand it but that's what I've figured so far.

Mine is Bahamut and favorite design is from FF10.
I'm mostly useless during the week when it comes to analysis since I'm really drained after work. My biggest concern was overloading the reader with too much at once but it looks like you've done a good job at breaking it down.
This is a bit surprising. I was expecting 5 or 3 to win but 2 took the lead despite what I've heard about it (passwords and stat growth).
Since I got the remaster bundle I've played 4, 6, 1 and just finished 4 again. Eventually I'll be playing the rest of these but not sure where to start. Figured I'd make a poll to get opinions or just go in order of release.

I'd recommend 10. Fairly straightforward, great battle system, good story, amazing OST (Fleeting Dream is probably my favorite from the entire series, at least tied with You're Not Alone from 9).
4 is my personal favorite, 7 is the most popular, 6 is a must play for any fan, 9 is probably the most beloved (it was considered a love letter to fans of the series).
