Fujin and Raijin. You know them. The inseparable duo who are Seifer's best and only friends and stick with him no matter what. But how well do we really know them?
Fujin and Raijin are two characters from FFVIII who serve as Seifer's lackeys. Each with their distinct trait, namely their way of speech, these two will sometimes pop up in the screen. While they don't impact the story that much, they still provide some comic relief and help us understand who Seifer truly is.
Fujin and Raijin, alongside Seifer, form the Balamb Garden Disciplinary Committee. They are rarely seen apart and the three bully the other students through punishment and detention.
When Seifer breaks out of the disciplinary room and goes rogue, they go search for him, despite Quistis already having that task.
Headmaster Cid gives new orders to the duo for them to pass to Galbadia Garden's Master Martine to be delivered to Squall's party. And so they go. They encounter Squall in Galbadia Garden, who tells them Seifer had been executed for actions against Vinzer Delling, the president of Galbadia. Both refuse to believe Seifer would go down so easily.
With Balamb Garden under missile threat, Fujin and Raijin inform Squall they'll help him evacuating the students and are not seen in the Garden afterward.
It's unknown when did they reunite with Seifer, but now that he is Sorceress Edea's knight, they become generals of the Galbadia army to support him (true friendship here, don't tell me otherwise).
They assist in the search for Ellone, and that leads to them confronting Squall once more, in Balamb, during Galbadian-induced lock-down. Squall, however, lets them go peacefully after the duo explains why they still follow Seifer: because they are his only friends and everyone is just taking orders from him because they fear the sorceress he serves.
During the Battle of the Gardens, our duo runs into Squall's party, but decide not to fight.
With the defeat of Sorceress Edea, Fujin and Raijin assist Seifer with the resurrection of the Lunatic Pandora. The two begin to admit Seifer is no longer the friend they once knew and, when Squall and his companions arrive, they give him permission to confront Seifer. Fujin makes an emotional plea for Seifer to stop, to which he replays it is too late to go back and wishes them a good life, before fighting Squall one last time.
Now that Ultimecia is dead and the world is saved, Fujin, Raijin and Seifer (now like they remember him being) go fishing. Raijin catches a fish and shows it off, which infuriates Seifer, who hadn't caught one yet. Fujin then kicks Raijin in the water, much to Seifer's amusement.
And that was it was this amazing duo, I hope you liked it. Stay with some facts about them:
Fujin is the Japanese wind god and Raijin is the thunder one.
In Chinese Buddhism, Fujin and Raijin were two evil demons who opposed Buddha. They were captured in battle with Buddha's army of heaven and have been working as gods ever since.
This explains Fujin's affiliation with wind, as her abilities are wind based, she absorbs wind-elemental attacks and spells and the player can draw Pandemona, the wind-elemental GF, from her. As for Raijin, at least in Record Keeper, his element is Thunder, which is also related to the fact he is the Japanese thunder god.
Fujin is 17 and Raijin is 18.
Their shared card is a level 6 card.
Claiming "I don't hit girls, ya know?", Raijin will refuse to attack if there's only a single female party member standing on the player's party. He will hit her if he is alone against her however.
Raijin is fond of insects, as he has read books about the subject from the library and has yet to return one.
The only moment Fujin speaks with full sentences is during her emotional plea to Seifer in Lunatic Pandora. All her other dialogue are one-word sentences as she doesn't like small talk and prefers to cut straight to the point, shortening the sentences as much as possible.
Despite his appearance, Raijin is the underdog of the group. It's also implied he is lazy, as he sneaks off to nap instead of doing his duties in Balamb. Outside of Seifer's "posse", Raijin is the friendliest to Squall and his party, not seeming to hold any sort of grudge against them.
Fujin is the most strick of the group. She kicks Raijin whenever he does something stupid, which is often. She is also the one who reminds her friends of the rules, as they eitheir forget them (Raijin) or outright break/oppose them (Seifer); with her reminders, they go bully the students who are breaking them.
Fujin has silver short hair and red eyes. Raijin has black short hair and dark brown eyes. Fujin wears an eyepatch on her left eye.
They both have a metal shoulder guard on opposite shoulders, each with a kanji referring to them.
They were originally created for FFVII, but with the Turks already present, they were left for FFVIII.
In Record Keeper, Fujin's Soul Breaks are mainly named with just one word, reflecting her habit of one-word sentences. While some are in English, and there's one which isn't just one word, "Into the Storm", the others are mainly Japanese words, with, according to Google translator (which isn't the most reliable thing, but let's work with it for now), two Soul Breaks in Chinese. The Chinese ones translate to "hand" and "gold", according to Google. The Japanese ones vary, from things like "calm" and "quality" to "destruction", all according to Google. And then there's the ones that don't get really translated.
In the Japanese version of FFVIII, Fujin speaks in kanji characters. The French version doesn't have Fujin speaking with just one-word sentences, but most of her dialogue is her telling Raijin what to say next.
