Hey people, I was kind of surprised that the first 6 Final Fantasy games have had HD remakes on the PlayStation Portable and mobile devices. Do you ladies and gentlemen like how there are HD remakes of classic Final Fantasy games?

I am about to begin this, the last in a long line of FF games I planned to play through this year after I had beaten XII for the first two times and the first game for the feel of a traditional FF. After these two, first was VII, my favorite of them all, then was IX, which I was in the mood for, then was VIII, which I was persuaded to give a second chance, then XII and VI back to back to decide which was my third favorite FF game (I think VI won).
And now for V, because my first and, so far, only playthrough I never got Forza or Enkidu to appear because I beat Magissa and Gilgamesh too fast. I want to see if I can get them to appear this time. Plus, kinda in the mood for it too, one with a similar style to FFII and FFVI but different and one I haven't played multiple times yet, and a wide variety of bosses.
I might get the Switch version (played Steam Pixel Remaster last time) because I hear FFVI one has the option to quadruple experience earned and I might do that to minimize level grinding time if V is the same. (Likely won't use God Mode this time though, if it has one)
Oh, but I just read the Gilgamesh boss article to see how to get Enkidu to appear and sounds like Enkidu might be tough and that it's a better tactical move to try to beat Gilgamesh before he summons Enkidu. (But then, it's also right before the notorious TOB Atomos and I was able to beat him with just monks)
Also, in FFXII, I know you fight both Gilgamesh and Enkidu... Was his entering the FFXII world supposed to be before or after fighting him on Xezat's Fleet? Does he ever travel between worlds before being banished to Interdimensional Rift? Is he literally FFIX's Gilgamesh originating from there?
He is actually streaming it all, but basically he broke the game during the fight with Necrophobe. He destroyed the barriers before Necrophobe spoke of them and stuff, and so the game still read Necrophobe as having the barriers up and being invincible. Thus, despite all the damage he was causing, even when Scan said Necrophobe had only 1HP remaining, it still didn't die.
Remember people: let Necrophobe talk, or he'll be literally invincible.
Well, FFV should be the last one, although there's still FFI which I never ended because the Normal Mode in the Origins version is basically hardcore actually. Anyway, take a look at this super creative name!
This is before you got to actually name him
I can already tell this is going to be a fun trip, considering my Ps2 was going through some weird convulsions everytime I inserted the damm disc. So yeah, this is definitely going to be fun.
Also, I'll never recover from Lenna being called Reina here. It's just like Ricard in the Origins version being called Gareth instead. It's too different for me to accept it.

Happy New 2022 Final Fantasy Fans, and I hope we are all ready to Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Final Fantasy V this year, as that installment is very Criminally Underrated, compared to both Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI.
Quick Question: Did Vargas actually die when Sabin used a Blitz, since his death animation was different to other Bosses, or did Vargas ran away to be never seen again?
Anyway, I wish all Final Fantasy Fans a Happy New 2022!

Tonight, I reached the end of my Final Fantasy V playthrough.
But it ended differently than my playthroughs of VII, II, VI, III, I, IV, and XIII. I beat all of those. This one, I couldn't even get to the final boss.
I got to the merged world, Level 50 (and some say they beat Exdeath at Level 40). I got the first tablet at the pyramid, beat Melusine, and got Lenna and the airship back. From there, however, I was not able to make any real progress. To get to any of the other tablets I'd need to beat the Fork Towers, which has a barrier blocking it. (I've been told you have to kill Wendigo for that but I have no idea how to get to him)
So I headed straight to the Rift after exhausting every other option. I had to run from half the battles because of an overabundance of enemies that afflict Confuse, the bane of all RPG players, and then came the first Rift demon, Calofisteri.
Now, one of the main things I was looking forward to in this game was fighting the Rift demons one by one. Of the seven in the Rift itself, she is the first, and also the final nail in the coffin. I could not beat her. My attacks barely do any damage even before she puts up her barriers, and she counters them with Drain. I should probably mention btw that, fighting my usual style, I killed Atomos before he could even kill one of my party members. Meaning Calofisteri is harder than him.
So, I'm giving up on Final Fantasy V. Next will be IX, but I'll need some time to recover from both this and staying up all night shoveling every two hours.
Now, I reviewed the other games I've played (all of which I've beaten) on another thread, I don't know if it can be viewed now as the thread was pretty old due to how long it took this game to be released.
So here is my review on Final Fantasy V.
***
The soundtrack is pretty good, especially the castle theme, the one that sounds Irish, and the Gilgamesh battle.
Exdeath is my fourth favorite villain next to Sephiroth, the Emperor, and Kefka.
It's cool that you don't have to level your jobs up to do decent damage, and your MP isn't automatically zero when you switch from a non-Mage to a Mage. And it has a cool system of its own where when you level up your jobs, you get abilities that you can equip in your secondary slot as any job. (For instance, I could have a monk using white magic, a black mage stealing from enemies, etc.) Some of these can be really useful.
However... Leveling them up to master them (to power up Freelancer) can be tedious and I doubt I'd have been able to do this without getting bored even compared to all the level grinding in other games.
There are too many enemies who use Confuse even by Final Fantasy standards. Not to mention some that afflict instant death.
Ribbons are nowhere near as useful here as in other games. They still have the same effect (or similar as it says it prevents MOST debuffs), but they can only be equipped by Dancers or Freelancers, rendering them useless if you're not either a really powerful dancer, a jacked up Freelancer, or have the Dancer's secondary skill (thus preventing you from using other useful ones). This is the only game as far as I know that actually limits who can equip a Ribbon. Thus, you have no way of blocking Confuse without sacrificing more.
And lastly, I couldn't get past Calofisteri to get through the final dungeon. Every other game I thought I got stuck at a certain point but eventually found a way around it. Here, I can't. I should've seen all the signs that the universe didn't want me to play this. So, of the eight games I've played, this is the only one I can't beat.
That lowers it significantly on my list. Of the games I've played or otherwise researched, here is my list from favorite to least favorite:
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy VIII (never played, only in the middle of researching)
Here's to hoping IX will be more fun.
Five days away from the Steam release of Final Fantasy V, and now might be a good time to ask for tips in advance.
So, if I understand right from what I heard already, there's the job system, which is different from III, as your job levels don't increase your stats, just give you new moves, and for each job you level to maximum, that character's Freelancer becomes more powerful, and it takes a max level Freelancer to beat Exdeath.
And there's some strategies for Atomos I took note of. Like cast the Blue Mage attack that halves the level then cast Level 5 Death (forget which enemies you learn them from but took note of them already).
So, any things that are missable that I am likely to overlook? (Like some powerful items or hidden Ribbons? Seeing as how there is one window to get the Blood Sword in FFII) And which jobs should I go with at the start? (Of course I'll want one White Mage, but I will be able to switch easier. Who should be the White Mage? Or does it matter?)
Are there any other ways of beating Exdeath that doesn't involve maxing every character's job?
Also, I know in the final dungeon there are two superbosses. Will I know them when I see them and be able to avoid fighting them, like Emerald Weapon? Or will they jump out of a chest like Imperial Shadow and get me a game over in the middle of the final dungeon?
Final Fantasy V may finally be coming to Steam November 10th.
I have already got Final Fantasy IX for Switch.
It's said it takes about six days to beat IX depending on your free time, where V will likely take weeks if not months for level grinding my jobs to max so I can make my Freelancers powerful enough to defeat Exdeath. (Unless there's another way to defeat him easily?)
But V is the one I want to play more and if I start IX this weekend (I have quite a bit of stuff to do tomorrow), I don't know that I'll have it beaten by November 10th.
So, should I start IX as soon as possible or wait until I'm done V?
(I'd do a poll, but if I did I'd have to vote myself to see the results)
If Final Fantasy V is not coming to Steam (VI still has 2021 listed as release date but V just says "is not available") then if I want to play it my best bet is on GameBoy Advance. I've got a GameBoy Player hooked to my GameCube which I've been using to play the Super Mario Land games and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Lately I've been using my Wii for GameCube games but I can dig my GameCube and GameBoy Player out like with my Xbox for VIII.
But I have to ask: Are there any annoyingly difficult parts of the GBA version not present in any other versions? (Aside from the temple with Enuo, and if that area does, I can just not do that, only going as far as Exdeath) Yes, there's Atomos of course, and Exdeath himself, but I can ask for specific strategies and advice when I reach those points, in an official progress/advice thread.
Since it’s day V let’s celebrate the underrated Classic!
I. Ninja (Speed and Dual weapons=👏👏👏)
II. Samurai (Who needs cash right? )
III. Summoner (Love the horn and Carbuncle’s debut! )
IV. Time Mage (I love controlling time )
V. Monk (Need a HP boost? 👀)
VI. Dragoon (I know they’re weak in this game but i simp for this job 😤)
VII. Chemist (Holy hell they can break this game.. )
VIII. Knight (Simple class that does it’s Job well 😁)
IX. Ranger (4 attacks in a row is a must! Plus I actually enjoy using them )
X. Berserker (I like challenging myself with the job plus Krile’s outfit is objectively the best in the game!)
An interesting thought had crossed my mind recently, and it was about the Main Antagonist of Final Fantasy V, but it was not about Ex-Death.
The main focus of this topic is on Ex-Death's Creator: Enuo.
We all know that Enuo created the void one thousand years ago when he tried to conquer the world, but, what the main topic is focusing on is the fact that Enuo 'Created Ex-Death' who was a Giant Tree (Originally going to be a Centaur). However, Enuo was only mentioned in the Original Final Fantasy V Game, but was never in the game until the Later Ports, such as the Playstation One, the Gameboy Advance, the Nintendo DS, and on Steam as well as on PC. To make matters worse for Enuo, he was just a Bonus Boss, and not the Final Boss. I have several questions on my mind.
Here are the questions:
1) If Enuo was the 'Creator and the Master of Ex-Death', why wasn't Enuo the Final Boss of Final Fantasy V?
2) Was Enuo important enough to be a Major Antagonist and a Final Boss?
3) Why wasn't Enuo in the Original Final Fantasy V as the Final Boss?
4) Why was Ex-Death more important than Enuo, even though he was not the creator of The Void, let alone a 'Creation of Enuo'?
And,
5) Why was Enuo a Bonus Boss, when he should've been the Final Boss in later ports of Final Fantasy V?
I am just very confused at this issue, since Ex-Death is just a Frankenstein Monster, whilst Enuo was Doctor Victor Frankenstien, also, it would make sense that Enuo would be the Final Boss, due to the role in creating The Void, and Creating Ex-Death in the first place.
What do Final Fantasy V Fans and Final Fantasy Fans think of this topic?
Would Enuo have made a better Final Boss instead of Ex-Death?
I have recently had an interesting though cross my mind, and it is to do with Bartz Klauser's fear of heights, as well as one other interesting issue that came to my mind.
We all know about Bartz Klauser's fear of heights, which was what he got as a child back in Lix, after a game of Hide and Seek ended badly. This is where the second issue comes into play, as I saw that Bartz Klauser was playing with his Best Friend, which made me think up some interesting questions that I haven't answered myself.
Here are the questions:
1) What was the name of Bartz Klauser's Best Friend?
2) Why did Bartz Klauser's Best Friend leave Bartz Klauser hanging on the roof for a long time?
3) Why wasn't there a cutscene with Bartz Klauser reuniting with his Best Friend?
4) Was Bartz Klauser's Best Friend going to play a major role in Final Fantasy V?
And if so,
5) Why was Bartz Klauser's Best Friend just left as a minor character, in which would never aid the party, let alone never get mentioned by Bartz Klauser ever again?
6) Did Bartz Klauser's Best Friend rescue Bartz Klauser from the roof?
And finally,
7) Would Bartz Klauser's Best Friend going to be a Sixth Playable Character?
I have watched the scene of Bartz Klauser hanging from the roof, before it ends and we return to the modern day scene of Bartz and Faris, however, I didn't get to see who rescued Bartz Klauser from the roof. Since that person was Bartz Klauser's Best Friend, I assumed he would've saved Bartz Klauser from the roof eventually, since that's what friends are for right? I mean, we do see Bartz Klauser's Best Friend in Lix, and he is all grown up, but we never see Bartz Klauser give him a hug or talk to him, since there is no cutscene with him and just a simple line that he says over and over again.
I am very confused by this, and I am hoping that Final Fantasy Fans, as well as Final Fantasy V Fans can help me answer these questions, since I cannot do it myself.
FFI - you control four random people, no one knows what gender they are or from where they came from, but you are famous already (and Princess Sarah wants to marry you already). You will probably have no idea where to go to at some point and will need to ask for help. You also started a cycle that later develops into Dissidia.
FFII - you'll always have the same three party members and you can't change their order(only row). The fourth party member will constantly change. You also are mere civilians and you defeat an emperor(everything normal for a Final Fantasy game). This is also the first game with a man for a white mage (and only actual white mage who is a man), the first dragoon, who so happens to be the first character with a surname, chocobos, and the start of the discriminating characters, featuring Scott as the first one. First appearance of Darth Vader concept.
FFIII(3D Remake) - four children put a being who can be whatever but decides to be a naked woman with snake friends to sleep. Two elderly people become some weird monsters. The start of the job class games. RIP Desch and Aria.
FFIV - a man is divided between staying with his childhood best friend or his brother. Decides to stay with both (and that's the main story. Change my mind). The esper's world make a girl grow faster. Two white mages and the youngest is the most useful one. The other just serves to start drama. Darth Vader pays a visit and he brings a cool dragon with him. The protagonist got adopted by Odin. Reevalute your life choices, just like every character does. Anna got discriminated. Once one sacrifice happens, everyone will start to sacrifice themselves every 5min. Brainwashes and manipulations will happen every second.
FFV - harem protagonist battles evil tree. Makes a friend that'll follow him everywhere from then on. Is still able to act gayer that many other characters. All dead people are remembered. Boko is the most important character of the game.
FFVI - Joker destroys the world. People are still alive. No main protagonist. Yeti and moogle as party members. Best general dies. Nightmares for everyone. Many dead girlfriends and boyfriends. Many families who aren't blood-related are formed. Best doggo lives here. Sabin actracts water wherever he goes. Ghost food is good and healthy.
FFVII - protagonist and antagonist just keep having their couple fights after antagonist decides to take a break. You get a vampire. You better drink the tea. Spy alert. Shinra and you won't work together, even tho y'all are after the same. Chocobo races and much more. Materia everywhere (it's not the one from Dissidia NT btw). Protagonist tries to forget his relation with antagonist by using other party members, the dead one included. Fails miserably.
FFVIII - people don't respect introverts. Cid isn't Cid, Selphie is. Comboy as a party member. Half-school, half-military environment. GFs are bad for memory (glad I'm single then). Time compression makes an appearance (because messing with time hadn't appear for a long time). School bullys side with antagonist. Rinoa just keeps atracting trouble. You draw magic (everyone must be great at drawing. Wonder where do they get so many crayons). Read books to get stronger. Raine and Julia get discriminated, specially Julia. The antagonist with less character development lives here (her character development is like 0.1%, and that's trying to make it seems like there is even any. Also, she's the first woman as an antagonist)
FFIX - protagonist hits on every girl he sees. The love interest isn't happy with that and runs away. Rat people and monkey people exist (plus many other half-animal, half-human races). Tails are useless. Mist is bad. Adoption is good. Another evil tree (because Exdeath wasn't enough). You space-time travel (Garland probably got here due to that). A planet is destroyed (for real). Antagonist wants to fit in, but no one helps. Gets mad and goes on a killing spree. Chocobos have dreams and play cards. The true Zodiac/Stellazzio story. You'll question your life, a lot. Cloud of Darkness decides to appear with a different form.
FFX - religion is everything. It is also supported with lies. Blitzball is the other religion. This one everyone loves and protects. Dead people can die and revive and still be dead. Dreams are real. Father issues (just like every other Final Fantasy game), but in this one it is a very explored thing. Dolls can be manipulated and no one knows how (Lulu is the true meaning of a black mage). Machina (not the FFType-0 one) are bad and good at the same time. Giant whale is threatening the world, summoners die just to put it to sleep. Some bastard just keeps defying death (like, dude, no one cares about you anymore. Just stay dead for Bahamut's sake). FFXIII's inspiration.
FFXI - start of the MMOs. Completely forgotten.
FFXII - the total embodiment of Star Wars. Side story of Tactis. Mere civillians defeat an empire (are we back to FFII?). Depending of the versions, you have job classes. You need a license for EVERYTHING (even to raise HP). Everyone becomes a hunter. Gambits are a thing (they're pretty easy tho). Antagonist's brother is on your side. Every dead person gets discriminated, specially Reks (that's what happens when you die at the beginning). Chibi version of characters and monsters exist (they're adorable). The law is bad (or at least the judges are).
FFXIII - go straight (you don't have much more to go). Faith is cruel. Getting chosen destroys your dating life. LGBTQ+ goes brrrrr. Cid gets discriminated (I think) (poor guy).
FFXIV - the talk of the world. Everyone forgot FFXI because of this one. Cat people exist and are adorable. You'll probably find an angry potato somewhere (and that is if you don't find many of them). The potato people don't like to be called potato people (well, I'm dead, I guess). Moving on, because I don't play MMOs and I don't care about them.
FFXV - a prince is forced to be straight while is going to pay a visit to his fiancé with his boyfriend and not blood-related gay parents. His actual father dies during the trip, and now you gotta turn back to pay the city a visit. Cid's daughter is the actual Cid (congrats Cindy). The future is now and flying cars exist. You can listen to other games musics (because cars have radios for that). The villain only wants revenge because his brother was an asshole (it's okay Ardyn, you have good motives). Because everyone loved the battle between eidolons in FFIX, FFXV also has one (but instead of non-elemental against Holy-elemental, it is Earth-elemental against Water-elemental). The prince's fiancé gets less character development than Cid from FFVIII (and that's just not to say Ultimecia) and completely forgotten (another one for the discriminated group). Ramuh is going to destroy the battle field. References everywhere (and I mean everywhere). There's 70% chance a battle will be interrupted by Ignis coming up with a new recipe. Gladiolus can get shirtless (and he is the only one who can do that). Ravus developed trust issues (good job Ardyn, you destroyed the poor man's life).
FFXVI - still in development, but I already love Clyde and the chocobos (specially the white ones)
I don't know why but I suddenly ALMOST feel I want to try it out...
I know this could open up a big thing where neither you nor me would stop until I get it (it's available for Steam just like VI) and beat it. I saw a Let's Play and found some elements to look appealing, and Exdeath might be my fourth favorite villain after the three from the ones I've played and beaten thus far (Sephiroth, the Emperor, and Kefka).
But I'm also iffy because I hear it's harder than those three (II, VI, and VII).
First, none of those games have the "job system" where you switch between jobs. How does all that work regarding stats and stuff and is it easy to figure out and know what job you need for where?
Second, are there particular long levels where it can be easy to run out of magic and/or items before you reach the end? (I seem to remember final dungeon you fight a whole gang of demons one by one, though the last demon Gilgamesh finishes him off for you)
Third, one thing that put me off from Final Fantasy III is that you can't buy Phoenix Downs in this game (at least according to the Let's Play I saw to research the story), they're in finite amount so if you ever run out of them you CANNOT revive a dead party member. Does Final Fantasy V suffer from the same thing or is III the one exception? (I know the three I've beaten you can buy them)
Fourth... Exdeath. I've heard he's a really tough final boss. I've seen his One-Winged Angel form, looks like The Thing (not Ben Grimm or the Addams Family one), and subsequently he has multiple components, but if only the main part is left alive he uses an overpowered attack, so you have to leave at least one of the other components alive to avoid this, but that means you have to take its attacks as well.
To do inventory on easy ways to beat the final bosses of the three I've beaten:
The Emperor - Blood Sword. I can three-shot him as it takes fractional damage of his MAXIMUM HP, and luckily he doesn't count as undead in this form. The only drawback? If you miss your only window to GET the Blood Sword in the first place, it's lost and you have to figure something else out.
Kefka - Ultima. And have a Megalixir handy for when he uses Heartless Angel at the start. Furthermore, if you have Relm Sketch him, that's a free Ultima.
Sephiroth - Best I can tell, not much if you don't have any Ribbons. White Capes prevent Frog/Small from Pale Horse but only Ribbons block Confuse, which Supernova sometimes does (if there was ONE thing I'd remove from that fight it'd be the chance of Confusion). Two Ribbons can be found in non-revisitable locations, and otherwise they can be obtained by Morphing Master Tonberries (I did calculations on that and plus W-Item Materia Glitch gives you infinite Megalixirs and Phoenix Downs). And Sephiroth follows a set pattern of attacks, but kinda like with the other two it's a matter of preparing beforehand.
So... Is there an easy way to beat Exdeath?
Even if I get adequate answers to all of these... No guarantee I'm going to get this game, and if I do, maybe not for a while still, besides, in my experience there's lots of level grinding in FF games. But if I do, someone will be around to answer any questions I might have and give me any tips that aren't obvious and can be missed permanently?
