So, I don't know how far will Part 2 go, and I don't care. I don't watch trailers. But this is about Cid.
I just did his Lost Chapter in DFFOO and I couldn't stop laughing at the fact his victory pose it's him smoking an invisible cigarette. I know the pose is the same as the one from the original FFVII, but the fact they didn't animate the cigarette is funny to me.
That led me to think: in FFVII, Cid disposes of the cigarette and lightens another one at the end of a battle. That brought me the question of "Just how many cigarettes does Cid have, and where?", but it's obviously just an animation to represent the character, with no actual logic whatsoever behind. However, since the Remake is being a little more realistic and giving a little more logic sense to some points, and I do mean little because then everything just crumbles for some reason, what is the faith of Cid's cigarettes?
I never watched Advent Children, so if they grab whatever faith they gave them there I wouldn't know, but in Dirge of Cerberus Cid doesn't appear much (appears in Chapter 7, the airship chapter, and in following high rendered cutscenes, and he is seen smoking), so he could have smoked who knows how many packs and we wouldn't know.
This all to say that I imagined the cigarettes having a similar mechanic to the arrows in FFIV, where the bows don't come with infinity like in the other titles and you need to keep on stocking on arrows if you want Rosa to attack (if she even gets a turn, her slowness might get in the way). Since the cigarettes are a rather important trait of Cid, I imagine you gotta have them somewhere, and where else but you're own inventory? The mechanic on itself would be something like this:
Once Cid joins, he will come with some cigarettes already, of course. You can buy cigarettes from shops to restock. Now, what happens if you don't have cigarettes? At first I thought of Cid refusing to battle or something along those lines, but then I thought of something that perhaps would be better gameplay wise. If you're out on cigarettes, Cid will get slightly weaker (perhaps lower just the HP and/or Defense, to not be all stats), not much, let's not exagerate, just 1-2%, little more than that I believe. So, he isn't out of battle, but he does get a little handcap. I know it makes more sense to be "no cigarettes = better health", but it's Cid, cigarettes are important to him.
I also imagined you being able to see the cigarettes he disposes of on the floor. And sure, it's not like they'll be exactly many moments for a victory pose in itself, but for that Square could always have Cid actually smoke the cigarette for real and once it's over light up another one while disposing of the old one.
Does this make any sort of sense? I hope it does. And it probably won't happen, but it's just an idea that came to mind.
