No, not the Disney movie and how Disney glorifies it even though the true sacred fan-favorite is The Lion King, and every Renaissance movie (possible exception of Pocahontas), The Princess and the Frog, Wreck-It Ralph, and the last three Bronze movies are WAY better.
No, I mean the debuff in Final Fantasy VI. I hate this even more than Confuse now. At least Confuse can be blocked with Peace Rings or Ribbons in this game. If there was one attack I would remove from this game it would be Northern Cross. (Though Blaster is a major contender, so I'll mention that as well; it insta-kill the whole party. Completely unfair. That's why, on Switch, I turn off encounters on indoor areas of Kefka's Tower. But at least you can equip one party member with the Safety Bit for that, or Memento Ring if it's Shadow or Relm)
But with Frozen, most often inflicted by Northern Cross, which is used by Ice Dragon, Fiend, and one component of the Purgatory phase of the Statue of Gods, there is absolutely no defense against it. Ribbons don't work, Ice Shield does not work. There is no accessory to protect against Frozen at all. If you get REALLY lucky you can block it with a shield, but it's a really low chance.
If it could only freeze one target at a time it wouldn't be so bad coz it can be cured with fire magic, preferably Fire coz that would do low damage. But Northern Cross affects all party members, unless one of them gets lucky and is able to block it with their shield. If all four party members are frozen, you are helpless until it wears off, and can easily die before then.
Who at Square decided that would be a good idea to put into the game? It doesn't make the game fun or challenging, just unfairly difficult and annoying. They either removed it from the original Steam version or greatly reduced the frequency of it, but Pixel Remasters brought it back. If I could make ONE change to this game it's to remove that effect.
When I fought Ice Dragon and Fiend on my most recent playthrough they both opened with Northern Cross and froze the entire party, so I just reset. Second time around, I was able to get a Berserk in on Ice Dragon, wasn't able to stop Fiend but he didn't use Northern Cross this time either.
But I didn't know Statue of Gods (Part 2 of the boss battle ending with KEFKA) could do that, they never used it before in any of my playthroughs, but now they spammed it. First time Terra avoided it and healed everyone else with Fire, second time it was Edgar, third time everyone got frozen, and Cyan, who just got Reraised, got killed soon after. Had anyone with an active Reraise died they'd have been revived and could heal everyone else with Fire. But no, I was lucky enough for the other component to use a fire attack on everyone, revived Cyan with Arise, healed everyone, etc.
I hate Northern Cross and the Frozen debuff more than Caillou. More than Confuse. Why can't that be removed from FFVI? The next Switch update should do that.
