You only need to be remotely good at Sphere Break in order to get the Lady Luck dresspehere during the Sphere Break tournament. This dressphere is also one of the best of the game, so you will want to win it.

If you want to get the perfect ending (100%), you will need to do most side quests, because even the smallest thing gives you %.

The Sphere Break tournament included, I believe. I mean, Shinra is the champion (until you beat him), so it makes sense that you must go there. Plus, it is fun, once you get the hang of it.

I agree, sphere break can be a pain in the arse, but when you get the hang of it, it is a great minigame

Uh.... you really don't need to worry about finding coins around Spira. Honestly, the earliest you hear of Sphere Break is in a visit to Luca (I think the one where Yuna tells her side of the first mission). Talking with the tutorial guy will give you some coins. That's more than enough. As long as you don't waste them playing around before the tournament, of course.

You are told coins can have some extra thing to them, like give you an item, gil or even help you score more easily. And while you might think that getting those is the ideal to beat the tournament, as someone that doesn't go after coins, I guarantee you you can totally beat the tournament with just the initial coins the tutorial guy gives you. And luck, of course, but still.
