During VII Rebirt Trailer ,Cloud Strife does a bit of voiceover work as he is explaining the goals of Sephiroth and things that happened in Nibelheim. One very bit of interesting dialogue is between Cloud and Tifa. Cloud alludes to him thinking Tifa died during the Nibel Reactor incident, where Sephiroth struck the young Tifa.

“I saw you lying there. I figured it was too late.”

Tifa is not shown on screen during this as it takes place during the walk of Cloud and Sephiroth in the Nibel mountains.

“Wait. What are you implying? That I died? That I’m some kind of an imposter?”

“What is fact and what is fiction?”

What’s interesting about this is that after the fact, the caption “What is fact and what is fiction?” pops up on the screen. It is unlikely that Tifa is dead or is an imposter, but it is certainly an interesting talking point about Cloud’s memories and his past.

I don't know is true or not , according Final Fantasy wiki says,

Tifa found her father dead at the Nibel Reactor with Sephiroth's Masamune. Declaring her hatred of Sephiroth and Shinra, she attacked him, but Sephiroth disarmed her and cut her down. Tifa fell down the steps and slumped to the ground. according wiki says

But we're dealing with a parallel universe here, where the original story doesn't matter.

Personally, whatever. If she is, she can die. If she isn't, she can die as well. But if she is an imposter, could that be Sefiros trying to spy on Cloud again? Damm, this guy just can't stop, can he?

Most likely she's ain't dead. This would make the fan service pretty pissed if they killed her. Remember this remake was only her for the fans so killing Tifa would only ruin it for the fans. They might as well also spare Areith(which would ruin the story) but what ya know, it is what it is. I'm just glad this type of "Remake" doesn't exist for FFVI. Oh and I almost forgot, they also spared Zack's life for the fans(which people were happy about) which means that Tifa's gonna survive this.

I mean, they probably gonna spare almost everyone, including Sefiros. Heck, if Genesis appears they might kill him instead, which I would be very pissed off about, since I find it awesome how he was the one that survived. They better not touch my precious LOVELESS lover boy!

As for Tifa, they already destroyed her main feature and the fandom was mad about that. Honestly, I'm no longer surprised of what they might do. Zack is alive, Yuffie has seen Nero. Man, this is just mess up.

Yeah they took it too far, but I don't put blame on square, I put it on the crazy fans of FFVII(and no, not the normal chill FFVII fans, I mean the super crazy ones like the shipping fanbase). So what's next? Areith somehow survives and after Hojo's killed he won't be back for DoC like how he was supposed to? I know they are gonna kill Sephy, but they're gonna bring him back again like last time on Advent children but except maybe in DoC instead of Weiss or Nero and Hojo(who actually all have more connection to the game than Sephy)? If the fans get pissed that Sephy dies, I'd see that as a silly thing to get mad at, but at the same time it's true. Just about any villain dies, so why wouldn't Sephy die? This game is just gonna be so different in so many ways to the point where there's infinite of theories

I still don't know why,Cloud and his party invade Shinra headquarters, a holographic display of company propaganda turns into a foreboding vision of an apocalyptic future where Sephiroth appears to kill Tifa. Some fans speculate that this sequence is a premonition of the future, and that it foreshadows the death of Tifa in a later installment of the series

It is far too early for fans to say where the story of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series will go, but killing off Tifa could be a major divergence for its sequel.
