My thoughts on FFXIV

I downloaded the free trial to get a little taste of it, I am actually enjoying it! 👍

I am a Roegadyn THM (Thaumaturge), and I love FFXIV's take on the Black Mage with having you balance out Astral Fire for higher MP cost, but stronger spells, and Umbral Ice for slightly weakened spells, but lower MP cost plus better MP recovery. Thunder spells are cool as they have no bearing on the Element Gauge, and basically are just like Poison-based spells (i.e. Bio).

When I do master the THM, I might check out the Pugilist, which is just a beginner Monk.

Never used an ether too!

P.S. Ethers have a long ass recast time, which spreads over to Potions as well, so use Blizzard and switch to Umbral Ice for quick MP.

Yeah, Potions and Ethers are basically useless, especially once you get past like level 20. There are plenty of other MP and HP recovery methods that work better, as you've already discovered.
