Well, here is the kicker.
Square Enix released a game that, by most rights, should've been considered Final Fantasy XIII
A game that met many of the marks of being a JRPG, that with a few minor tweaks, could've been given the title of FFXIII.
This game released September of 2008 while FFXIII released December of 2009. And honestly, if you swapped the titles around; it would make a lot more sense as FFXIII narrative and gameplay feels like it is an endless slog where you discover something but not really so as it means almost nothing in the sequel chapters.
Meanwhile Infinite Undiscovery feels like it is worthy of Final Fantasy. A great evil has chained up the moon and keeping it in place, and wherever these chains are mounted; monsters are flooding into our world?
Add in crystals on the moon, and you have yourself a Final Fantasy game!!!
I love FFXII though. I think the black sheep part should only be about the fact it's barely spoken about.
Well, as an Original player, if I ever play the ZA version, I doubt I would receive the same experience. I know it has its differences. And it would most probably take time for me to adapt to it.
Still, a great game imo.
Not going to deny that it isn't a great game.
Just that it feels very unlike Final Fantasy when it comes to gameplay.
I see.
Considering the different amount of gameplays the games have, I don't really think that. But everyone with their opinions.
If anything, and this I wrote in a post of mine that will never be posted due to how big it is, when I played Dirge of Cerberus, because it is a FPS type of game(and my first time playing something of the sort), it felt "like I was playing a Final Fantasy game without playing a Final Fantasy game", but unlike with FFVII, in a good way.
I think it also extends from the fact that the main hero and main villain of FFXII have very little importance when it comes to the over-all plot and only have importance in the final battle.
I actually like how Vaan doesn't get the spotlight as a protagonist and someone else is the leading man. Allows people who don't like the spotlight, like me, to feel themselves, if just for a moment(because I'm in no way as energetic as Vaan).
As for Vayne, well, he does affect a lot imo. Could affect more? Probably, but I like it like it is. You get most of his character development by taking a good listen on the dialogue. Actually, you get a lot of details by listen carefully to the dialogue.
But I did heard many people don't even consider Vaan the protagonist due to how it was done, though he gets more protagonism in Revenant Wings. For me, he still had the protagonism in FFXII, but that could be just me.
Vyne does affect a lot, but he has hardly any screen-time so players that pick up the game and progress forward every few days will likely forget who he is.
So if I understand right, the main character is Vaan and the main villain is Vayne. Those are kinda similar names aren't they?
And Terra is kinda similar as there is a whole arc where she is absent, and Celes gets the focus at the beginning of World of Ruin. Terra does kinda have the most story to her but in the end I guess the player gets to choose who they consider "main character" (in which case it would be Edgar for me), even though Terra is the FFVI protagonist for Dissidia.
It's..... Not really like that. Vaan is the protagonist, Balthier and Ashe are the ones that truly influence the story. In Balthier's words: "I'm the leading man.". Vaan would easily be considered just another random party member, more like Gau.
Also, Vaan and Vayne seem similar written, but they're very distinct, for me at least. Not to mention Vayne's full name is Vayne Carudas Solidor, while Vaan is just Vaan.
Yes Nokuto(Noct) is pretty much clueless for like what...... 80% of the game. First he was clueless on why his father planned for the marriage he had with Luna until Cor intentionally spilled the beans to Nokuto after the plan of Regis sacrificing his life for Noct was successful. Noct was also ignorant of all that Crystal and gods and the kings and Lucis and Eos stuff and he even had Luna in his back flashes informing him how everything works despite him being part of the Lucis bloodline. He also wasn't suspicious of Ardyn at first(which Gladio was specious of the latter) untill Ardyn reveals that he's the chancellor of Niffleheim(I think it's called) and Noct wasn't really hostile towards him til Ardyn murrdered Luna. He also didn't knew about Bahamut's plan(which blame Bahamut for ruining his life) where Noct's supposed to die and also doesn't know who Ardyn is, which seems like it doesn't count but I'll count it since it was shown that Regis recognized who Ardyn is from legends in the Ardyn dlc, ect
What do you think?
