We're talking about all sequels and prequels that exist in the FF multiverse.
Don't worry, I myself haven't played all of them, but I know things from some of those games which still allow me to create an opinion(not a very solid one, but still something)
The only sequel I have and played is FFX-2. Never finished it, but I've been close. I don't really get why do people hate the game. I myself enjoy it. The dresspheres are amazing and the combat system is very dynamic. The music is great and the game, although you're after some dark secrets, gives a happy atmosphere. Sure, to get 100% you literally need a guide by your side, but that's all I don't like about the game. Besides, I've played many other games and 100% was never something I did, so that part is whatever.
From other sequels and prequels, I believe everyone agrees Crisis Core is well made. Surely is one the fans love (at least I get that idea, but I understand why). Moving to Dirge of Cerberus, people say this is the worst FFVII's game. I mean, it does look quite poorly implomented, and it also was the first time Square was creating a battle system for a gunner. It's not like you can expect much for the first time things are made. But still, Vincent is there, Genesis is there too, and I surely would love to play this game.
Related to FFXIII, we have FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns. I've heard many people saying FFXIII-2 saved the triology. Well, my personal opinion when it comes to mess with time is don't do that. However, the game does seems quite well made, and Caius is an amazing and revolucionary villain. Noel and Yeul are very cool too. I don't really know much about LR, but if Lightning literally killed the creator of gods, then the game most be amazing too. I won't say if it is better or not than FFXIII-2 because I don't know, but both games look great to me.
Going a bit back, we have FFIV: The After Years. So, apparently, this game is very much alike FFIV, just Golbez is good, you have some new characters, including Cecil's son, but the story resolves around a story similar to the one in the first game. I guess that knowing this makes the game look poorly implomented (and it certainly looks like that, ngl), but hey, Golbez is a good guy, and his design is cool; I'd play just because of that.
There are many other sequels in the FF multiverse (I'm not really sure if there are more prequels besides Crisis Core) that I don't really know about, but from me they get the credit of existing at least. But don't worry, I can see when a game is poorly implomented or appears as so. Yet, I do believe most of these sequels that I don't know about are at least enjoyable.
Tbh, I don't know if FFXV's DLCs count on this list..... I don't really know. I wasn't counting the movies, so Kingslaive, Advent Children, don't even think much about them. I was only counting the games. Tell me your opinions if you want.
Only sequels I’ve played for Final Fantasy are the XIII ones. First ones story is the best one in the XIII series imo.
FFX-2 is definitely a very fun game. I love its take on the turn-based system and just the cool summer vibe. It's not as great as FFX, but I don't think it ever set out to be. It's just a really fun FF game
FFIV: The After Years isn't great. Its pros is that it's pretty much just FFIV, while its cons is that it's pretty much FFIV. You go through almost the same dungeons, fighting the same enemies. The battle system is pretty much the same as FFIV except the band system. It goes through pretty much the same plot points. As a sequel, it's incredibly dissapointing. As a stand alone game, it's an ok turn-based RPG needlessly divided by an awkward chapter system
I'dd like to add FF Tactics Advance and A2. While, of course, their stories aren't even close to being as good as Tactics, but they made a bunch of much needed gameplay tweeks, and they're both really fun, pick-up and play tactical RPGs
What do you think?
