Hi everyone, I have been a longtime fan of FF Wikia and have decided I should start contributing. so with this in mind I began writing an article for FFXV. I accidentally published the article and it is in an incomplete state far from what I would like it to be however as I try to edit the page i am stuck in an infinite Load and cannot rectify the page.
I have tried on two browser's and have reset my cache. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate that greatly.
The article in question is - finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Costlemark_Tower
Kind Regards Jay Tutton
I don't know why you couldn't edit the article again, I haven't heard of that bug before. (I thought it's called Castlemark Tower, though?) I hope it is now working for you. Contributing to Wikia is locked if they are updating something, but that should give you a "database locked" page and not just an infinite load.
You can always copy how other similar articles are doing things, and there's some advise on the policy pages like finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Wiki:Article_Creation_Policy and finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Wiki:Manual_of_Style. It's not a requirement to "know everything" and read those policy pages to contribute, but you can always check there if you are wondering about something. For FFXV dungeon articles, I have created a couple, like finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Myrlwood, so you can just take the same format and adapt it for a different dungeon. Same for any other type of article.
Hope to see you around contributing more. :) I just did that dungeon yesterday myself.
Hey, thanks for the quick reply, I'm still having issues directly editing pages but fortunately I've found a method around it. I managed to finish the article and it has since been updated by another user so hopefully it'll meet the standard this wikia holds :)
Hi, I too have been using FF Wikia for a long time and now hope that I will be able to contribute. I have the same issue when using the edit button at the top of a page next to talk, and share. However, most pages are split into tables which I am able to edit.
The problem I have is when there is a 'module' instead of a table, are they editable? Or is that like an image that is set?
Thanks in advance.
You could try if the same editing issue is with other Wikia wikis. I don't know how to go about fixing it, sadly.
Unfortunately I'm not sure what you mean by module rather than a table. Everything that is content on the wiki is supposed to be editable. Maybe you can give an example?
Thanks for the reply. I just tried on another wikia and I was able to edit the page, so not sure what the issue is.
But the module I mean is on the Fishing (Final Fantasy XV) page. finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Fishing_(Final_Fantasy_XV)
The edit next to List of Fish has no script and the edit next to Data from Patch 1.02 opens - Editing Module:FFXV Data/Fish. Which is in a different format and I am unsure how to add images.
I found that if you create a page or view a previous edit it will enable you to view the current and previous edits, on this page you can select edit and this will bypass the infinite load. :)
You could contact Wikia and tell them about the bug. finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Contact is the contact page. Odd if it is only here though! It might be something someone can fix if we know what is causing it.
Ah yes, fishing. That sort of thing was done by User:JBed and it works different than a normal table. There is an edit option at the top corner in the article but it looks quite intimidating. I was thinking of how to add a fish gallery myself here. We could just make an actual gallery with the gallery template. I'd also like a gallery of lures. And images of fishing spots (maybe just from the map view).
I don't know who's decision it is to make on creative decisions, I was just wondering this as I am writing the script for the hunts table and I would change the table slightly. I also think the title should be hunts rather than quests but does this need to be approved by someone else? I did look in the project area but didn't seen anything concerning this.
Depending on who's decision it is I can just write the information as a normal table and add the images in under the title, like finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_VII_weapons.
I could do the same with the lures and the recipes. I can't seem to find any good pictures of the enemies though!
Making a normal table is fine. You can change it for a format you think is better.
Hunts are considered quests in FFXV and go to the Quests section of the main menu with all the other quests after being undertaken, but I'm not strictly opposed to changing the article format if you think it would be better. I think anyone can rename an article but you should probably post about it to the article talk page first (explain why you think it should be renamed). No one's in charge of "creative decisions" generally, but it's nice if things are somewhat unified across the wiki.
Hopefully one day someone will extract models from the game so we can have nice enemy models like for most games on the wiki. In the absence of anything better any screenshot will just have to do.
And thanks ThePandaMan2, after doing my first edit you were right the loading issue has been resolved.
What do you think?
